Wishful Thinking, but...
This is totally in the realms of dreaming, wishing and hoping and entirely subject to my overactive imagination, but I am a writer, so it is allowed!
In the wonderful parallel universe in which I sometimes live, where some producer has got hold of a story of mine and decided to turn it into a film (in my defence a few of my reviewers have actually made that comment) who would I want to play the leading role?
Having given it some serious thought, I have decided that the wonderfully talented and hugely diverse actor David Bradley would make a great Joe Gallows. Here is my character description of Joe from Wakeful Children, written as a rough guide for an artist to draw him - a bit of background information about him in addition to the story itself. (I have not yet commissioned an artist, but all in good time...)
"Joe Gallows is a man of indeterminate age, probably mid-fifties. He is dirty and unkempt, living rough in the woods. His hair is roughly shoulder length, greying, thin and wispy. He wears a hat, perhaps a woollen one. His teeth are uneven, some are missing, they are dirty and his breath is foul. Occasionally he drools without knowing it. His eyes have a slightly vacant look to them (he is virtually illiterate) as well as a gleam of menace. His left eye is swollen and distorted, weeping and red. There is a line of thin, vicious scratching across it from his forehead, over and through his eyelid and down to his cheekbone. It looks painful and infected. He does not have a beard or moustache but he is not clean shaven either – perhaps an untidy shadow? He wears a long coat, almost ankle length, which has plenty of pockets, as well as several layers underneath consisting of an old suit jacket, a waistcoat and some sort of shirt. Pockets are a necessity to him. He wears old woollen, fingerless gloves. His nails are long, discoloured and ingrained with dirt. He wears a thin scarf around his neck; it hangs loosely down his front. His trousers are thick but old, held up with rope, even though he also wears braces. He wears heavy duty black boots, worn and fading. His prized possession and something he must never be without is his home-made slingshot (catapult.) It fits into his coat pocket so not too big, but is strongly made from a forked stick and strong, thick elastic. He also carries varying lengths and thicknesses of rope in his pockets, a variety of knives, including a hunting knife, a pen-knife and a Swiss army knife. He does not wear a watch or have any technology about his person, not even a pen."
Here is David Bradley, i should imagine very well known as Filch from Harry Potter. These are not my images but are from buzzfeed.com. Have a look, see what you think. Any suggestions?
