Vandals, Thugs, Idiots & Creative People (oh, and Dragonflies!)
S P Oldham
I have had a lousy week, blighted by gangs of thug kids, threatening and anti-social behaviour and to top it off, a grown man throwing a brick through my living room window. Why? You may well ask. I wish I knew. To say I have been a bit fed up is an understatement.
So it was especially lovely to meet a gentleman by the name of Damien this morning, over the Park. He had what he described as 'just a cheap little camera' with which he often takes photos of nature. When I met him he was trying to capture a large dragonfly - there are loads over by the ponds.
We got chatting and it turns out he is an artist and sculptor. He uses natural materials for his resources. He is asking permission from the park warden to use a fallen branch off one of the trees, and he plans to turn it into a model of the dragonfly, complete with working parts! He has also been working on an 'Indian Headdress' he is making from the various feathers he finds scattered around. He does local watercolours and painted a dragon fly on a lily in the pond just recently.
It was so lovely to meet someone who has a passion and respect for nature and the local area. He moved here for reasons of ill health and so far is finding the air agrees with him! I am hoping to bump into him from time to time. I will suggest he join the group if he interested, and keep you posted on his work - he has hopes for holding a local exhibition soon.
Just thought it was a nice little tale to relate. Not horror related in any way I realise, though my thoughts at 2 am Monday morning were all horrified, but that's another story....
Happy Friday all! Here's to a peaceful weekend...
